SUMMARY:Spinning: Playing with Plying @ The Clearing Folk School
DESCRIPTION:Plying sometimes comes as an afterthought to the spinner. It’s just “what we do” to our singles. However\, plying is a specific skill set for the handspinner and an important tool in the design and construction of handspun yarns. We can ply for a specific yarn structure; to create a unique yarn design; to blend fibers; and to build color. We’ll explore all these plying skills and more during our class\, creating a wide-ranging palette of your own custom handspun yarns. \nThis class is being taught at The Clearing in Ellison Bay\, (Door County) WI. You must register directly with The Clearing by clicking the “website” link below. \nShare this:Share\n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Rigid Heddle Double Weave - Virtual Workshop via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Learn to expand the capacity of your rigid heddle loom with double weave! Using two heddles\, you will learn to weave a double-layer of fabric. It’s truly magic…and not difficult! Our class project will be a wall hanging that you can use to store some of your weaving tools. As we weave the project\, you will learn to weave two layers of fabric that are open on one side and closed on the other; open on both sides; closed on both sides with an opening in the center of the top layer; and closed on all four sides…and whatever other combinations there might be! \nThe first class session we will learn to warp our looms with two heddles and prepare to weave. The second and third sessions we will weave our wall hanging. Later in the third session\, as well as during the optional fourth session\, Deb will work with you to plan for a second project to do on your own after the workshop concludes. (Maybe you’ll plan to weave a blanket or laprobe? Or a set of pillow covers?? Or…???) Deb will also make herself available for you to consult with once you are “out there on your own”. \nThe prerequisite for this workshop is to have direct warped and woven on a rigid heddle loom at least once. A previous beginner class is all you need! \nClass dates/times (All times are Central time zone):\n -Tuesday\, February 6\, 2024 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. (First session is 3 hours.)\n -Thursday\, February 8\, 2024 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.\n -Tuesday\, February 13\, 2024 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.\n -Thursday\, February 15\, 2024 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. \nHere’s what you will need to participate in this workshop:\n -A rigid heddle loom that is a minimum of 12″ wide (15″ preferred)\, completely assembled\, and in excellent operating condition. Floor stand is optional.\n -Tools needed for warping your loom…warping peg\, heddle hook\, tape measure.\n -Two eight-dent rigid heddles\n -Two pick-up sticks\, preferably the width of your loom\, but at least 15″ long\n -Two stick shuttles. (Shuttles that are 9 or 12″ long work good\, but 15″ will work well too.)\n -Ability to access Zoom. Preferred but not required: a camera in which I can see you work to assist you through struggles. (You may like to log into the class with both a computer and phone or tablet to use as your “loom cam”. \nWorkshop fee is $125. A $60 non-refundable deposit will be due when you register. The remainder of the fee will be billed prior to the last night of class. This fee includes:\n -3 or 4 class sessions (the fourth session is optional if you do not wish to plan another project)\n -Two contrasting skeins of Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece or Malabrigo Verano yarn\n -Postage to ship your yarn to you\n -All classes will be recorded and you will have access to them in case you miss a class or for future reference.\n -A downloadable learning guide\n -Support from Deb between classes and following the completion of the workshop\nDeposits are non-refundable except when a class is cancelled by the Fiber Garden! \nZoom connection link\, information on ordering your workshop yarns\, and any other loom supplies you might need for class will be sent to you approximately 3 weeks prior to the start of the class. \nPlease note that technology can sometimes be a challenge in rural areas where the Fiber Garden is located. There are good days and slow days! In the event technology does not cooperate to provide you a good verbal and visual learning experience\, we will arrange to reschedule that session or reduce the class fee if a session needs to be canceled due to a slow internet connection. (I look forward to the day that I won’t need to lament over rural broadband access!) \nShare this:Share\n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n Like this:Like Loading…
