SUMMARY:Beginning Spinning & Rainbow Dyeing @ Sievers School of Fiber Arts
DESCRIPTION:Spend a week of fun learning the art of handspinning and dyeing\, as you turn wool and other fibers into your own unique yarns!  A five-day class is the best way to learn to spin because it provides so much time to practice learning your new skills. You will learn about fleece selection\, washing\, handcarding\, drumcarding\, spinning single and multi-ply yarns\, and simple dyeing techniques to transform fibers and yarns into a wonderful rainbow of color.  Ashford\, Louet\, Schacht and Kromski spinning wheels and related equipment will be available for your use. This class is for those who have no previous spinning experience. We will start at the very beginning! (If you are among those who were introduced to spinning at my one-day “crash course” at the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival\, this would be a great follow-up to take you much further on your spinning journey!) \nPlease note that this class is offered through Sievers School of Fiber Arts and you must register through them at the website listed below. \nShare this:Share\n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Braids and Cords - Cancelled
DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT NOTICE: All 2022 events are pending due to the pandemic. Until further notice\, all participants in Fiber Garden hosted events are required to show proof of full vaccination\, including a booster\, to participate. There may be additional protocols implemented to ensure maximum safety of participants. Protocols may include masks\, distancing\, at-home rapid testing. By registering for a Fiber Garden-sponsored event\, you agree to comply with any established guidelines.  Now…on to the fun stuff! … \n Learn kumihimo\, lucet\, and slentre techniques all in one day in one workshop! There are a lot of uses for braids and cords and this workshop will focus on three techniques that will help you weave several different types.  We will explore Kumihimo which uses a foam disc to make round or flat braids. For the second technique we will use a Lucet to make square cords. Finally\, participants will learn to use your fingers for braiding\, a technique called Slentre. All these techniques can be done almost anywhere and are quite portable. During this class we will be using different types of fiber for the techniques and incorporating beads into some of the designs. You will complete braids and cords using each technique. The braids and cords can be used for straps for bags/totes\, shoe laces\, bracelets\, trims for knitwear or hand wovens\, and embellishments for clothing or home furnishings. Although there is a “hefty” materials fee for this class\, you’ll go home with all of the supplies to continue making braids and cords at home!! Well worth the investment! \nWorkshop fee is $75. In addition\, a materials fee of $50 will be paid directly to the instructor at the workshop and includes a kumihimo foam disc\, lucet and spring clamp to take home\, a supply of various types of fiber to make braids and cords during class\, written directions.  A $20 non-refundable\, non-transferable deposit will be due at the time of registration to confirm your space. The remainder of your fee will be paid at the conclusion of your workshop. (Fees are only refunded if an event is canceled by the Fiber Garden. Thank you for understanding.) \nReserve your space at the workshop weblink below.
