This wood gauge is 2 1/2″ square with a chain to keep it handy. We love this gauge when we are spinning sample yarns for a new project. Laying your sample in the gauge will give you an idea of the weight of yarn you are spinning. (You should always spin a much larger sample of yarn and knit/crochet a gauge swatch to ensure accuracy in your knitting…but this gives you a great start!)  This gauge will also help you determine the approximate weight of those “mystery” yarns in your stash!
