The fiber adventures continue in iconic Shetland!

• This will be the Fiber Garden’s fifth visit to Shetland and we hope YOU will be able to join us in 2023!
• Led by our knowledgeable guide, Sarah McBurnie of See Shetland, here’s a sampling of places we are likely to visit in Shetland:
  • The Shetland Designer. Home of Wilma Malcolmson, Shetland knitwear designer and color expert.
  • Jamieson & Smith Wool Brokers. Purchasing wool from more than 700 Shetland producers and a great Shetland yarn shop.
  • Uradale Farm.  Ronnie is in organic sheep and wool production and sells beautiful organic, dyed yarns.
  • Shetland Textile Museum. View their collections of Shetland lace and fair isle knits. Don’t be surprised if you meet a well-known knitter or two here!
  • Unst Heritage Centre. For you Shetland lace lovers! A gathering with local spinners and knitters.
  • Spindrift Crafts. A demonstration of natural dyeing with Shetland plants.
  • Mousa Broch. The tallest broch still standing in Scotland on a serene Island
  • Jarlshof Settlement. 4,000 years of human settlement here!
  • Sumburgh Head. (And if we’re lucky, some Puffins!)
  • Garths Croft. Meet crofter Chris Dyer on the Island of Bressay
  • Cliffs of Eshaness. Spectacular views!
• And, YES! You will see some of the sites from the Shetland series.
• Plus much more! It’s a fiber-packed itinerary, opportunities to visit with and learn from local spinners and knitters, plus a grand tour through the breathtaking scenery of several of the islands of Shetland.

Third time is a charm! The 2022 tour is the rescheduled postponed tour from 202o and 2021! Cost is $3,6000 for double occupancy, and $4,100 for single occupancy. These prices exclude round-trip air to Aberdeen. This is one of the most complete travel packages you will find anywhere! This price includes flight from Aberdeen to Sumburgh (Shetland), all lodging, three delicious meals daily during the tour, our own personal guide, all tour fees, overnight ferry with outside cabin from Lerwick to Aberdeen, and a tour rain jacket.  The group size will be very limited for this tour with a maximum of 12 travelers. Small group size is a great value as you will get “up close and personal” with the people and places we visit.

• Reservations. You may request a space on this tour beginning at 6:00 p.m. Central time on Friday, October 29. The link to register is at the bottom of this page. Once you go to the reservation page for the event, you will click “register“. On the second page, click “join waitlist”. The Fiber Garden will release spaces to people on the waitlist until tour spaces are filled. This process has changed from previous tours. Everyone is now required to waitlist first. This allows the Fiber Garden to review the list and make sure that travel companions do not get separated. It also allows for the allocation of single and shared rooms. (Each traveler must complete a separate registration.)
  • Reservations are due by December 1, 2021! After this date, you can contact the Fiber Garden to check for any remaining available space.
  • Before making a reservation for this trip, be sure you have thoroughly read all of the information and documents on this page! You are responsible for all information provided to you regarding this tour.
  • If this tour has reservation requests beyond its capacity, priority will be given to those who have NOT visited Shetland with the Fiber Garden in the past.
• COVID protocols. To ensure the safety of those traveling in our group and to meet likely travel requirements to enter Scotland, please be advised that you will be required to be fully vaccinated to participate in this tour. There will also likely be COVID testing requirements, possible mask mandates, etc. that we will address as the tour gets closer. To participate in this tour, you must be willing to adhere to any COVID protocols in place at the time of our travel. The Fiber Garden will keep you updated on COVID-related requirements for travel. The Fiber Garden reserves the right to refuse any reservation for their tours, including from individuals who have been non-compliant with health and safety protocols during previous tours.
